
Jan Legere attended South Portland Highschool taking two years of double-period Art and Letterpress Printing. He graduated in 1953 with a 2-year working Scholarship to the Portland Museum School of Fine and Applied Art. While attending Art School, he was employeed parttime as a Letterpress Type Compositor and Pressman at Hall and Hall Commercial Printers of Portland, Maine.
In 1956, Jan married Shirley Morrell who he met in 1953 on their first day of Art School. Together, during and after their Art School Years, most of their free time was spent sketching and painting along the Maine Coast. In 1961, they moved to Effingham, Illinois where Jan was employed by E.W. Petty Company as their Art Director creating Direct
The Central Illinois Summers proved to be too hot and humid for their thick Maine blood. Now (1963) with 3 Children and another on the way, Jan landed an Art and Copywriting job in much cooler Warren, Pennsylvania with Blair Corporation, a National Fashion Mail Order Company. He understudied his boss and Vice President of Advertising, Charles A. Pettibone. Charlie was an accomplished Painter and their mutual interests in Fine Art was shared over the years. Jan "retired" from Blair Corporation as VP Advertising in the fall of 1975 to persue Fine Art Painting full time.
As of the time of this writing, 2009, with 12 Children Grown, 10 years divorced from a second marriage, at age 74 with good health, Jan is more than ever doing Paintings and Commissioned Works from his small farm in rural Western New York near the Northwestern Pennsylvania Line.
